Jenna - There were sessions in August where we had people dropping like flies because of the heat. Texas would be miserable, too.

Jeff- I'm dying about the slide. That's hilarious. I hope you didn't have any judges come close. You'd have to hum or buzz loudly to cover.

Gabrielle - Oh, it hurt, but I had to laugh, too. Did ballet help? I'm wondering if it's too late for me. :)

Hold on, let me wipe the laughter tears from my eyes before I write... :) I'm sure at the time it didn't feel funny, but I'm happy you're able to laugh about it now! I was not an athlete, either - unless you consider ballet a sport. When I was a child I was nick named The Clutz because I fell, tripper, bumped and generally whacked anything within my reach. My cousins still tease me about playing tag in their huge yard and the only thing in it was a birdhouse post right in the center - easy to avoid, right? Not for me - I plowed into that thing with a force that sent the inhabitants searching for a new home. I think that was the day my mom enrolled me in ballet...

No marching band injuries, but I did endure some embarrassment in my trombone-playing days. During an on-field competition, the otter tube of my slide got caught on the decorative shoulder strap of another trombone player. It was yanked out of my fingers, and for the rest of the song I had to pretend I was playing my trombone. Perhaps he got the worst of it, though. He ended the song with a trombone slide hanging from his shoulder.

I can totally picture your bass drum / fire hydrant incident. I absolutely know how hard percussionists work, so for that--and your bruised arms and knees--I salute you!

=O That's a rather scary story...I have been in a homeschool band for 3 years but it's not a marching band. Sounds like a marching band could be fun! {Though Texas is quite hot...so maybe not here...} :)
